How to connect your pc to the internet

Before you connect your laptop to the school network it is your responsibility to be current with Window Updates and that you have an active anti-virus program with current virus definitions.

1) Open up Internet Explorer

2) Select Tools from the menu bar on the top of the Internet Explorer

3) Choose Internet Options

4) On the top bar, choose Connection

5) Press the LAN Setting button

6) Check the box next to the text “Use a proxy server for your LAN (These settings will not apply to dial-up or VPN connections)”.

7) Check the box next to the text “Bypass proxy server for local addresses

8) In the Address box, put in 10.1.1.1

9) In the Port, put in 8080

10) Click Advanced, then check on the box that says “Use the same proxy server for all protocols” if not already checked.

11) Click Ok

12) To make it work at home again, just uncheck the box that is checked in the step 6).

If the wireless connection on a laptop is not working, here are some good recommendations:

1) Check to see if the wireless card (NIC) is turned on

2) If your NIC is off turn it on. If it is one, try disabling it and then re-enable it.

3) Check to see if the proxy address and port numbers are correct.

4) Install the software that was included with your wireless card.

5) Make sure you are in range of the wireless internet connection.

6) Restart your computer.
